While being investigated for gallstones, I have been found to have high white blood cell count, abnormal cells and smear cells. Could this be CLL? This has come out of the blue and is a shock and a worry. Any advice out there on the forum? Have to have a bone marrow biopsy next.

Hi staffs,
You need to wait until the results of the bone marrow Biopsy and even then more test may be required before your specialists can say with any certainty that you may have CLL. Your gallstone problem will have probably raised your white cell count especially if an infection of some kind is present. I cannot comment on the abnormal and smear cells, again you will get more information as the test results come in. Easy to say but try not to worry too much until you know what you are dealing with, and don't hesitate to ask the good people on this forum for more info or support.

Staffs,
...Not necessarily. I was diagnosed with CLL [Watch and Wait] in 2010.
Last year I had acute pancreatitus caused by gallstones. Whilst in hospital, my WBC count went up significantly; however, after my gallbladder was removed, my WBC went back down to its previous level.
Hope this helps.

Alan
